RISD Spring Semester Design Project 2015
We were each given five constraints to follow for this project. My constraints were: minimum of three parts of art (pieces to a whole), line is a major formal quality used, five colors only, 3D is used more than 2D, and texture is a big quality. My inspiration for this piece was woven textiles, and I was interested in how I could manipulate traditional methods of weaving to fit the constraints I received. I first created a square frame using aluminum wire, then made a warp structure using the same wire. I then used varying white yarns as my weft, allowing some threads to hang down from the surface of the piece.
