MITID Hostel Storage: Modular Furniture Design

This was a classroom exercise to understand and design modular furniture.
I was to study problems faced in the MITID Hostel and design modular furniture accordingly.

People from different departments live in the hostel. Communication Design students including students from Graphic Design, Animation Design, User Interface Design and Film and Video Design, Industrial Design students including students from Interior Space and Furniture Design(ISFD), Retail and Exhibition Design(RED), Product Design and Transportation Design,
and Fashion Design students including students from Fashion Design and Fashion Management.

All these diverse students with diverse needs, requirements and equipment live in the same hostel with identical rooms
and furniture. Hence, there was a need for designing a modular system of storage to accomodate all the different needs
and equipment of this diverse group of students.
There is a huge diversity in the type of items in the rooms of students from different disciplines. Those from RED and ISFD have large models, furniture prototypes, material scraps and tools, while those from UID and GD have a laptops and tablets and cameras. TD students have several car models while FVD students have tripods and cameras. FD students have garmets and thread and fabrics, and so on.
Besides these, the students have a variety of personal equipment based on their individual interests.
BRIEF:
To design a modular system of storage for students of  Product Design, Inetior Space and Furniture Design, Retail and Exhibition Design,
Graphic Design, User Interface Design, Transportation Design and Animation Design from MIT Institute of Design, living in the hostel.

The storage is for Books, Assignments, Projects, Tools, Stationary and Electronics. It should give maximum work space and flexibility.
The items should be easy to access.

If possible, its secondary function should be to accomodate items like food, toiletries and shoes.
The scaled model
The mechanism
Other possible uses
Drawings and other explorations
