This is the tutorial called "Designing with Textures." For the model I asked my oldest son, James, to pose for me.
I found a grunge texture and added color and gradient overlays because it was monotonous and desaturated. I took James' image and applied the default black and white gradient map. Then I added a Speckle Grain Texture Filter. I made the layer's blend mode Multilpy to take out the lightest areas and adjusted the Hue/Saturation until I got the color and tone I wanted.
From there I typed James' name using Enriqueta Bold font and adjusted it so it stacked and touched the edges of the window and each other. I made a selection of the text and inverted it. I selected a brownish-orange color from his face and turned off the text layer leaving the inverted selection. I dragged a gradient from the left to create a knocked out image of the text and de-selected it.
