Organic cement

My intention was to redefine basic characteristics of cement so to liberate its applications and express sentiments through a new, personalized material.

I attempted to transform it visually, from definite to random.

Aesthetically, from industrial to organic patterned.

Physically, from heavy weighted to lighter thus serving jewelry’s functionality.

I experimented on different types of cement and on combinations with other materials, researching numerous applications.

The challenging part was the fragility of the resulting pieces.

Overcoming this constraining obstacle, the outcome was a cement mixture based on salt crystals and fiberglass.

For the completion of the final pieces, synthesizing the cement mixture with materials such as reused objects, metals or fabric, was of important role.

Classic jewelry techniques and style were applied with the purpose to obtain high quality and aesthetic balance.
