Te Aro Park History
The park is designed by the Ceramics artist Shona Rapira Davies. The park is designed to be shaped like a canoe. Shona is a sculpture and painter. The evidence of handwork deliberately left as traces in the titles as an echo of the closeness of the hand craft. (Maori Craft) Interweaving geometries, the tukutuku inspired patterns of the glazing.

Prow (Sculpture part that sticks outwards and the of the park. The Prow being the obvious element means a male presence of the site (vertical) and the female element represented in the more dominant and elaborate horizontal plane. It’s not supposed to be a comfortable space for contemporary NZ, it was not designed to be easily accessible.  In the ponds there are 3 depictions of a goddess/guardian figure. One is of a young girl, an adult and an elderly women.
