Red Dress (2011)

AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION RED DRESS COMPETITION
The Red Dress project was assigned in my Draping course in Fall 2011.  I designed, draped and then created this dress while studying abroad in Rome, Italy.  It is made from a stretchy satin, to increase confort and fit while keeping a polished look; along with a georgette train extension that extends from the lower back to the floor.  I hand beaded the entire lower back section fading from red beads to a deep grey/purple to create emphasis on the deep deep on the lower back.  Since it was required to be red I wanted to defer from the typical "sexy" red dress and do something that is polished and elegant with a hidden sense of sexuality, hence the a high neck and a deep back.  While it is a polished look I still wanted to create a sense of flow and playfulness which is why I added the georgette train in the back.

This dress has received the First Place Prize in Philadelphia University's Red Dress competition for the American Heart Association.  It was further displayed in the Macy's display window located at 13th and Market Street in Philadelphia, PA.  It received the Fashion Industry Association's Award for the Most Outstanding Junior Design in the Philadelphia University Annual Fashion Show.
