JLIN for Decibel Festival 2015

Three dimensional poster for Jlin at Decibel Festival 2015. Made entirely from cut paper, light, and shadow.

Jlin’s first album, “Dark Energy,” debuted to critical acclaim and was dubbed “best new music” by Pitchfork. In alignment with the album’s aesthetic, this poster utilizes minimal forms and a monochromatic pallet. The “Dark Energy” album art and video for the track “Unknown Tongues” exemplify this aesthetic.

The poster construction leverages illusions of light, shadow and depth to create a transcendent impression. A layer of mylar abstracts the three dimensional forms below its surface, and exaggerates the depth of field. As the viewer moves around the poster, the forms and shadows gently shift with the viewer’s changing perspective.

Exhibited at New Tomorrow in fall 2015.
