CHARLEVILLE ART GALLERY RETROFIT
Students and staff from LiveSpace travelled to the Western Qld regional town of Charleville, in July 2014 at the invitation of the Murweh Shire Council. Students are working upon the conceptual design, prototyping of exhibition displays and documentation for the proposed Charleville Arts Gallery, a retrofitting project which will occupy the current Arts and Cultural Centre location in Alfred Street. Construction work on the gallery is scheduled to commence in 2015. While in Charleville, students had the opportunity to undertake detailed site inspections and to meet with the Council, community stakeholders, builders and representatives from Arts Queensland to discuss the project requirements.
The need for a regional art gallery to promote local artist has been long recognized by the Murweh Shire Council, Charleville Arts Gallery Inc. and the local community. The gallery will serve as a showcase for the works of local artists and also provide a venue for travelling exhibitions and events to the region. Designs for the space will allow flexibility for a wide range of future exhibition and commercial opportunities. Project teams are working in conjunction with QLD Art Gallery/GOMA and Griffith University QCA Web Gallery and Griffith Artworks to ensure best practice is achieved in gallery design and allow for travelling exhibitions to occupy the space.

RENDERS
Modular Design Justification
Considering the need for the reuse-ability of household objects to save from ex- cess waste going to tips/landfills, something needs to be done to try and coun- teract or slow down the gradual increasing amount of furniture is being used for a short period and thrown away. Although there are many ways to combat this problem, the re-usability of furniture seems to be a realistic pathway to go down, as it does not change everyday life for an “everyday” human being, instead it tries to make a bodies life easier by making furniture more adjustable and eas- ier to store. The goal of this concept was to make display units specifically for the first concept, to give a grasp on further research that could be achieved us- ing the same methods of designs. Moving forward, the hope would be that this idea of a socket system could be implemented in such a way that a desk/recep- tion counter could either be built on OR built for the same parts, however further though needs to go into the joining mechanisms to further the idea of modular design.
The ideology behind the socket system is that no nails/glue/adhesive of any kind would be needed as all the sockets would be cut accurately which mean a very strong fit, on top of this, weight from human interaction and items on dis- play would load all weight down the sides and into the ground.
