Sometimes you have to stand alone,
to make sure you still can.

This piece i created as a daily reminder of the strength one individual has.I think that life has made it so easy to focus on everything else but yourself. We get so caught up and intertwined with superficial ideas of how to live life or who to be that we may even lose track of who we really are as a person.

From painting wood, nailing one nail by one, individually weaving yard through a thousand nails, and handspinning newspaper into yarn, this labor intensive project was energized by life itself.

I wanted the yarn weaved in different directions to represent the daily ups and downs of life and the ongoing movement of life moving forward. The word "ALONE" was created by handspining newspaper to create yarn. Newspaper was incorporated in this piece to represent world media and the relationship with the viewer with struggles an obstacles we all endure.
