Cinema Underground Expansion and Contraction
2011 Fall Advance Studio 

The project site was the East side railroad tunnel of Providence, Rhode Island. It was opened on November 16, 1908 at cost of $2 million. It runs 5,080 feet, under College Hill, from Gano Street to Benefit Street and is currently abandoned and sealed.
The Cinema contains of two viewing room. One cinema is located in the end where the visitors can experience the tunnel space while viewing the movie in the open tunnel. The second cinema contains of one viewing room that expands as the number of visitors increase, while it contracts for minimum viewers. Under the cinema is a interactive space for the visitors to feel the mass of the hanging cinema.

As you enter, you see the ticket booth on the left and a preview room that is transparent.
after you pass the ticketing, you see the way to the EXPANDED cinema, and another way on the left to the bottom of the cinema.

under the CORE cinema, in the back you see the second cinema which is open in the tunnel, and use the back of the "core" cinema as a screen. (the core cinema is EXPANDED)
