Panthera is a two-part project in which the objective is to bring awareness to the plight of lions and tigers - my two favorite animals. Within just 100 years, wild lion and tiger populations have decreased at an alarming rate. This is mostly due to hunting and poaching, illegal trade, and human conflict. Lions currently exist in 20% of their original historic range, while tigers exist in just 7% of theirs.

Fortunately, there are many organizations who are focusing on saving these beautiful and majestic cats from extinction. Panthera is one of them, and you can learn more about them at panthera.org.

I first created two digital paintings - Panthera Leo and Panthera Tigris. The two paintings depict a symmetrical view of lion and tiger faces so that the two faces could easily be combined together as one in a poster advertisement. They can also stand alone as separate, complete pieces.

After the digital paintings were finished, I then brought them into InDesign and combined them into a poster containing information that I wrote on the importance of lions and tigers, as well as some statistics as to how endangered they are.
