Gestalt Principle: Proximity

The Flock
This is my composition showing the Gestalt principle of proximity, which states that elements that are closer to each other are more likely to be seen as a group than those that are farther apart. As it can be observed, the birds of the flock that are closer to each other tend to be seen more as a group than those that are a longer distance apart, which are seen as out of the group. My intention was also to create a figure, a bigger bird, made of the small, individual birds, using their position and the principle of proximity.
My Composition Seen from Different Angles
The Process
First of all, I made a small sketch of my ideas. Once I knew what I wanted to represent, I drew a circle (I wanted it to be the Sun, but later I changed my mind) and the silhoutte of the big bird on bond paper. Then I arranged the little birds I had cut, made of foam paper.
I covered a cardboard square with grey glosspaper, for it to be my base. Then I proceded to trace the bird on the gloss paper, and I realized later that it would had been easier to place the little birds on it since the beginnig, because I had to be very careful to place each little bird exactly as I had placed it on the bond paper.
My Inspiration
This is the image that gave me the idea of using a bunch of birds to explain the principle of proximity. The birds are perceived as a group because they are very close to each other.
