Our final project in Print Publications was a collaborative magazine. The challenge was to do it with only theme. We collectively decided on the theme “black.” There are so many connotations and associations with this word, which gives each of us a more vast opportunity to explore its definition.
In my case, I chose to design around the idea of “black eye.” Not only does it carry the obvious negative connotation of a physical mark but it also is the nickname of a double espresso shot. The opposite meanings between the same phrases make it interesting in terms of theme for this two-page spread. Overall, I opted for illustrative heavy work and color to guide the reader’s eye.
