Modular Collapsible Lighting

A great industrial designer needs to understand the ‘gestalt’ of a product life cycle, meaning they be conscious and considerate of everything from production to packaging. With the obvious impeding environment threats we face, we need to start saving space without compromising integrity. Considering production processes, and being able to structurally prototype these designs is mandatory for any product designer. Below is turned red oak on aluminum extension.

Pictured first is another collapsible lamp exploring the structural capabilities of common low density polymers, and their elegant and effective way of diffusing light. The lamp consists of low density polyethylene that organically folds and unfolds in a matter of seconds. The lamp can be used in a variety of contexts and pays homage to modern values of universality, and contemporary concerns regarding overuse of materials and inefficient packaging. Materials are riveted together and roughly 95% collapsible.
