Prescription
In some form, pharmaceuticals have always surrounded me. My family used to own and operate the local pharmacy in town; which isnow, ironically, out of business.

This seriesinitially started when I was thinking about my own personal health a coupleyears ago and my need for medication to function on a daily basis. I takemedication for several different ailments to prevent pain and cure deficienciesin my body. There is no way that I couldfunction without the pharmaceutical industry. Despite the fact that pills makeme feel better, I wish I didn’t have to rely on them to be free from pain anddiscomfort.

What happens ifthese medications aren’t available from the manufacturers anymore or what ifthe average person can no longer afford their monthly regiment of medications? Myfear is that eventually these medications are going to fail or somehow will nolonger be available. At any point the FDA could remove drugs from the marketdue to interactions or adverse side effects. If these medications have an“expiration” date attached to them, I can’t be dependent upon them on along-term basis.

Modern medicine revolves around the theory that there is a pill forevery ill. In general oursociety has become accustom to having a drug to cure deficiencies and not fixinitial health problems. Drugs have this promise to cure and people believe inthe industry regardless of all the warnings and alerts.

In my work, Ihave a mix of found scenes and created ones. Shooting in pharmacies has given the viewer a taste of the unknown. Theycan see what is behind the scenes including prescription files, drug stock, etc. By viewing everything in bulk, it comments on consumerism and the need forthese items.

The grid represents the calendar and the daily regimn of medication that is endless for society.
