Cuba Vive!
A series of 9 manipulated photos of classic American cars from Havana, Cuba
After Fidel Castro took power in 1959, the United States imposed its economic embargo on Cuba, halting imports of American cars and other consumer goods. People held on to their cars out of necessity and now, more than 50 years later, many of the cars are still used for daily transportation.

Behind the shiny chrome and tail fins is a world of need, improvisation and sheer wizardry. Cuban mechanics cannibalize Ladas and Volgas for parts. They make exact replicas of 1950s hood ornaments and windshields from scratch and the quality of the work is outstanding.

Every car is a repository of Cuban history from Batista to the present.
