Far Far Futures Album Cover

This piece is a composition of several independent sketches, plus an oragami swan. I colored it and added drop shadows and blur in Photoshop.  I normally use a lot of photo reference in my work, for inspiration at the very least, but I draw rags so much that I didn't need photo reference this time.  I did need YouTube reference to make the origami swan though!

It took about a month to draw the cloth backdrop.  The goal was just to keep going until I filled the page.  I left this pencil because I wanted the background to look soft.

The rag flowers in the foreground were inked with Microns.  I did a live trace in Illustrator because I didn't want any white or gray artifacts, and I wanted them to be solid (not "Multiply" or some other blend mode).  I ended up making the rag flower fill semi-transparent because otherwise they competed for attention with the swans.

The little heart is just a tissue paper texture I found on google cut into a heart shape in Photoshop.

I had also drawn a bunch of rope lanterns, but they cluttered the composition, so I left them out in the end.

Finally, the lettering.  The band requested that I do not reveal the album title until their record release, so I can't show you that part yet.  I'm really pleased with the lettering though!  It's very floral.  ...Their release date is sometime in December, I think.
