meowPrint faces some of the most redundant themes in the contemporary era of new technologies hypes and internet mass culture.
The central topic is 3d printing and more generally the “Do It Yourself” movement.
The video shows a 3d printing action, but what it is shown instead of a machine is a person, who is gradually producing an object from bottom to top, using the mouth. The timing of the video and the motion are unnatural, miming the characteristics of most common 3d printing video documentations. The item produced by the person is an origami, ancient craft that for many facets can be considered as an ancestor of the modern DIY 3d printing. Nowadays origami has been widespread and westernised within modern video-sharing website through video courses and tutorials. The final product of the “print” is one of the most common origami model spread on the web: a cat, which is generally found in internet culture as the “Do It Yourself” lovers’ pet par excellence and central figure of the effective propaganda that virally pollutes all kind of online media with cute feline images.
