Collaborative Woodcutting

This was a project I was part of in Semester 1 of Year 1, Bachelor of Creative Industries - Visual Arts - Print. The brief was to work together as a team to create a large print made up of many small prints, cut by each class member. We ended up learning the processes of woodcut printing, burnishing and teamwork.

Using the red dye method, it was easy to see where to cut the wood to the image.
Each class member completed a block that made up a complete image.
Class members taking turns to ink up the blocks. The original image is in the foreground so we can reference the order.
Getting the blocks in order ready for print
Hand burnishing the print.
The moment of truth....carefully the print is revealed.
Success! We were all happy with our collaborative print project.
