Modii is a parametrically designed: MODular Interactive Installation.

Modii’s goal as an interactive environment is to create a balance in the number of people between the two sides of the installation. In order to do this, Modii will attempt to lure visitors in and guide them through the structure by using light and movement to encourage visitors to keep moving towards whichever side is low on attention. Four columns of electroluminescent wire, form the interface on which visitors and Modii will interact by means of touch, light and movement.

Modii’s structure is completely digitally fabricated and each part is unique to its design and location. Its form was scripted in Grasshopper, Kangaroo and optimized through Galapagos to find a balance between structure and fabrication constraints. Fabrication was done by designing through file to factory principles and making use of laser cutting and CNC-milling machines. The script is open to the public to play with and change to their own benefit.
