Port Nicholson Fisheries

Port Nicholson Fisheries (PNF) Limited is an Iwi and Māori owned limited partnership company that has been operating in as a collective model since 2012, and is situated in Rongotai Wellington. The core business of PNF is exports of live seafood, specifically exporting live lobster to Asian markets, including China. The strategic aim of the company is ‘To be New Zealand’s premiere live seafood processing company with a reputation for providing only the highest quality products.’

PNF desired a logo that was distinctly Maori which portrayed strength, unity and related to moana (ocean, waterways) and kaimoana (seafood). Firstly the form of a "manaia" (mythical guardian creature) was used as a base form to portray the company as guardians of kaimoana. The flowing form of the body and arm relates to the ocean, giving a "wave-like" feel. The gradient orange and red color relates to koura (crayfish), PNF's main export. Lastly the spiral contained central to the design, signifies the unity of the company, maori and iwi, which is central to PNF's purpose.
