On the left side paint named "Silent scream"

•Size: 55X70 Technique: Pastel
•A scream is all it is, a scream for help, a scream of freedom, a scream of stress, a scream of pleasure and so on.
Just part of our lives, a scream not screamed out loud. A silent scream.
On the right side paint named "Haze"

•Size: 100x80 Techniques: Pastel and collage ( reuse of newspaper)
•This painting represents the constant confusion of what we are expected to be, what we want to be and what we are in the reality.
The chains burden by a woman and the changing expectation.
The beauty, the body, the behaviors . Our perpetual fight between beauty and freedom to find ourselves.
Named " Port-of-call"

•Size: 100x80 Techniques: Pastel and collage (reuse of newspaper) over watercolor
•Based on a Cape-Verdean landscape on the beach, mixed with the history of the country as a port-of-call for African slaves and trade.
Pillars in the Portuguese history have the meaning of power and were where the people under slavery were punished and subjugated.
The shackles and chains that haunts and still haunts many Africans.
A long fight for freedom that nowadays makes us free men and women. Even so the fight isn’t finished and still as Africans we fight for equality and against racism.  This is a chain that haunts us wherever we go.

•Men are, if we like or not, part of our lives as women, and we do find it difficult to understand them.
This painting shows how fragile they seem after the barrier of self protection. How they hide their feelings, ashamed of their fragility.
Paint of Cesária Évora

Name: Diva of Morna Blues

•Diva  of Morna Blues, named  Cesaria Evora ( 1941-2011), was a Cape-Verdean singer of Morna Blues. Also known as Cize and Barefoot Diva.
•She grew up in a bad neighborhood, with bullies and prostitutes.
•With a wonderful voice she started doing serenade. Her first and second albums were a disillusion , not getting paid or even seeing the albums. Making her stop singing and refuge in “grogue”. Later she got back into music thanks to  the Organization of Women of the party PAICV. After that her career and life just got better and better.
•She isn’t just a symbol of Cape-Verdean culture but also that of a fighter.
•Morna Blues is a traditional Cape-Verdean music.
•Grogue is the traditional Cape-Verdean rum (bai jiu).

Name: Red Black  Velvet

•Size: 80x80 Techniques: pastel over Spray
•Beauty is and essential part of a woman’s life. As so the aim for being accepted as beautiful, as what is standardized as beautiful becomes a burden. A chain to the true real woman.
•The paint is to a critique over the standard beauty in people’s mind.

Name: Wounded

•Size: 45x80 Techniques: pastel over watercolor
•The wounds that mark us. The healing moment needed after being hurt. And the feeling of letting things go with the wind.
Name: (to) Emerge vs. drown

•Size:  55X70  Techniques: Pastel over watercolor with slight detail on Acrylic
•Interesting thing about this painting is that the mood and meanings change according to orientation, so it may be used up side down, horizontally, etc.
–If as in the first image it represents the burdens we carry and how we let ourselves be drown into them, trying to hold onto little things that help us as a positive chain to reality. And this was the original concept.
–If up side down, as the second image the meaning completely changes to a strengthen moment of our lives, when we are fighting hard to emerge and let go of our chains, that keep pulling us back.
–If horizontally it transmit a feeling of freedom and confidence, those moments in our lives that we are sure about what we want, and we are the ones pulling and saving others, and here there's the strength to fight for our dreams, and any chains will be able to pull us back.
•The bondage of white ribbons are our invisible limitations easily to get rid of, but is up to us to realize it.
