This project was realised during my internship at “Lucirmas” design studio. The brief was to design a useful object that could be easily constructed from a specific wine bottle. The wine bottles were collected from restaurants in order to be reused. After we brainstormed, we decided to create a candle lantern. At the design stage, we first defined the guidelines. Based on these guidelines, we started experimenting on a more practical level, with many tests and failures, on real bottles. For the handle we tried many different materials and we ended up using cork as an insulator to allow it to be handled after being heated by the candle.
The result was a recyclable candle lantern from reused wine bottles, perfect for both interior and exterior settings, that can be easily constructed. The lantern remains on sale and has been a commercial success.
