Landscape in Monochrome

A very mild Winter with little snow prompted me to create a series of Black and White images. We get so used to seeing the world around us in color that it is often taken for granted that color is a crucial element in Landscape Photography. We forget that photography began in Black and White and that the beauty in a landscape is also about shape, line, pattern and contrast in tonal values. Taking the blue and gray color from these images stripped them of color distraction and reveals beauty in other compositional elements. There is a simple elegance to Black and White Photography that is sometimes neglected in  today's culture of saturated colors and HDR.
