Information Triage & Multi-Level Annotation
The Book “Traversing the Wasteland”, and its companion documentation book are the final products of my MFA thesis. The project is an exploration in creating functional systems of typography and spatial orchestration to assist in navigating large volumes of annotation and supplementary information. The poem “The Waste Land” by T. S. Eliot serves as the basis for this exploration. “Traversing the Wasteland” presents the first section of Eliot's poem in conjunction with the original manuscripts of the author, the author’s notes, changes between drafts, critical commentary, explanations of allusions and references, and translations. This vast body of information is organized in graduated levels of detail to make navigation of supplemental information as intuitive as possible, allowing the reader to make informed decisions regarding what they choose to read. The second book contains my written thesis and documentation of the many stages of the design process involved in the pursuit of the final version of “Traversing the Wasteland.”
