Tummy Troubles. By: Julia Thompson

‘Tummy Troubles’ is a series of seven drawings interpreting a friend’s story. Her story was prompted with the question, “In a few minutes please describe a visual memory.” Her memory was naturally told on the spot with a sound recorder. The story was all about her traumatic experience at the hospital. On top of telling the story she jotted a short list of visual objects and colours from her memory. Using her only the colours and materials she wrote down I told her story from my perspective.

The series is an interpretation of her memory. This art piece looks at how another person can dictate the content and materials used in an art project. Also contradicts the idea of a memory as such a strict color pallet was used in each individual drawing. When ‘Tummy Troubles’ was exhibited the 7 drawings were hung with wire with speakers below playing the sound piece on loop.
