Tracing The Roots is a bilingual publication designed in response to the ISTD Brief 2015. The book consists of the original versions and translated versions of First Things First Manifesto 1964, 2000 and 2014; there are 6 postcards that contain keywords that were carefully selected to bring out the essence of the manifesto. The manifestos are only available in English and so as to make the manifestos more accessible and digestible to a different group of audience, the publication is designed to reach out to present and future Chinese designers. Tracing The Roots aim to promote the message of “living for design against design for a living” in the Chinese design industry.
