Glass and Chrome
A Study in Reflective and Transparent Materials
Tasked with creating a room in 3DS Max 2010, I set to work designing a simple layout with a great deal of reflective and transparent textures. In order to familiarize myself more with reflective textures in Mental Ray, I chose to forgo complicated furniture and objects and spent a great deal of time brushing up on glasses, reflective metals and lighting.

I populated the room with simple furniture from an IKEA catalog, and picked objects from the homes of my mother and several of my friends to place on the furniture. The bar area is a close replica of the one in my mother's living room, with the colors modified to fit this setting.

All in all, it was a fun project, and it was invaluable for expanding my knowledge of reflective and transparent materials in 3DS Max. I plan to someday expand this project to include adjacent rooms, or possibly even the entire house.
