Spatial Constructs 2D Environment

The Fairy Queen

This was a project conducted during my time at University. The idea surrounds creating an environment using a given text/book/poem which is interactive and fun. I chose Shakespeare's Fairy Tale part.iii as reference and below is the resulting character and environment concepts and a video at the end showing the final result!

I hope you enjoy
The main character was designed to look like a wooden explorer in order to maintain the naturistic feel I wanted to create. I wanted to create a nice, bright and sunny environment with a fairytale style woodland feel.

I chose low poly as it was a nice simple style that would transfer nicely from Illustrator to Flash.

Environment Assets

Environment concept created in Photoshop to get an idea of the arrangements available with the platforms and the other options I could use to mainting the side-scrolling style.
Final lighting and colour concept image.
Experimenting with various assets to give a slight mystical feel. The original idea was the have the mountains singing in low soothing tones but wasn't achieved in the final outcome.
I wanted to create a secondary contrasting environment to change up the colour palette and experiment with different assets. A cavern was chosen to test the low-poly style to see if a sense of scale could be created. The snake was designed to sit within the cavern where he would help you to find the 'Fairy Queen' although a limited understanding of coding prevented this.
This is the final outcome! I hope you enjoyed viewing my project.
(Apologies for the end of the video cut to desktop!)

Thanks,

Mike
