Metal Gear Fan Remake (Cancelled)

Based on the 1986 MSX video game of the same name, the Metal Gear Remake Project was to re-create Hideo Kojima's classic stealth game in the Source game engine. While the project was gaining popularity, we prepare a package to present to Konami, the holders of the copyright, however we were politely turned down and subsequently stopped production.

My role on the project was as a modeler and texture artist, script / story editor, and towards the end of production story layout and concept art.

Presented here:
1) The game logo (seen above)
2) The titular Metal Gear TX55
3) M24 Chaffee tank
4) Sliding door type A
5) Story art layout for the introductory scene

2) Metal Gear TX55

A large percentage of the high-poly base model was created for a school project, it was touched up for this project. A game model—clocking in with a polygon count of 15,441—and texture set was also created for this project. This model featured specialized textures whose colors could be changed while retaining baked lighting information.

3) M24 Chaffee

This tank was the first of at least three kinds of tank to be modeled. The project was scrapped before this tank got out of the high-poly stage and no other tanks were completed. It was to be the most common model of tank scattered throughout many areas. The other types of tanks that were to be modeled included—but weren't limited to—the AMX13 and an M103.

4) Sliding Door

While simple, the sliding door featured here was the primary door type that would be featured about the base the game takes place in. Numbers on the door had variations from 0 to 9, and the light on the door panel had a green activated variant.

5) Layout Concept – Introductory Scene

The first and only scene layout concept that was completed by any stretch of the imagination, this image helped to choreograph the introductory scene in which the player character (Solid Snake) infiltrates the base that contains the main play area.
