I've always loved the old Flemish master still lifes. I started to think about how, designed to show off the prosperity of their commissioners and the talent of their painters, they also function as unabashed portraits of both of those groups of people. On top of that, the style was used for so long and with such little change that it became a de facto code language for a certain audience. The run was long enough that it must've been incredibly commercially successful, and the code language cool enough that the up-and-coming set must've hungered for it.
These collages are homages those paintings. They're big; the one below is 6 feet across, and designed to hang in your candle-lit cool dining room and provide an awesome backdrop for your dinner parties.
