I have been thinking about the red ribbon necklaces worn as political statements after the French Revolution to commemorate victims.
 
These paintings are landscapes, of course, but as I have watched the landscape of my neighborhood bulldozered to make room for new condos this year, a similar idea of commemorating loss or violence seems relevant.  These are images of landscapes being erased.
