Drawing Prosthesis

  • A prosthesis is an artificial body part. It is an addition or extension of the self. This 'machine' acts as both a drawing implement and a prosthesis; a drawing prosthesis, if you will. The act of drawing using the prosthesis is performative; the machine is brought to life with the activation of the artist, and yet a tension still exists between the lifelike quality of the prosthesis and its movements, and the inherent lifelessness of the machine itself.
Through the act of drawing using the machine, does the machine transcend its insentient self? Or is it merely a tool to be manipulated by the artist?
  • Ink on paper. Drawings created using drawing machine/prosthesis.
