"Ebb" Wrap Jacket

This piece is inspired by the Ecuadorian Indian cowboys. These men, traditionally called Chagras. embody the spirit of the highlands in Ecuador. This collection explores the idea of herding and confinement. I referred back to the work of Christo and Jeanne Claude, and their wrapped objects, and thought about how the concealment caused by the fabric challenges the viewer to reinterpret the objects themselves. “Ebb” means to retreat or flow back, which plays into the concept of being inhibited by your surroundings.

In this piece, I am interested in exploring androgyny. To do this, I am employing techniques such as stuctural seaming and wrapping. I have worked to create a shell that negates any type of gendered ideal, instead, I have looked to wrapping, which softly embraces any body type.

This look is designed around the thoughtful, inquisitive person, who challenges their exterior environment. Through the use of thick wools, I expressed the textures encompassing the vast Ecuadorian highlands.
