50 Series: The Sensation of Sinking

This was the first of two 50 series that I created for Victor Lara's Foundation Drawing course in Spring 2014. It encapsulates the sensation of sinking - a feeling that came on and was so pertinent that I needed to transfer it into art in order to cope with it. It was a growing experience that pushed me in ways that I couldn't imagine. I moved from the representation of sinking to the feeling of it; which was an incredible challenge that I did not know I could accomplish.

With this series, I started at the surface and sank deeper as the semester went on. I changed the values depending on how intense the feeling was at the time.  I did these works in ink, charcoal, and wet charcoal on various papers.  The order that these are in are based on the sinking.  Not all are shown in closer detail, but most are.
