This work is a monoprint, a unique print created by mixing linocut and monotype techniques. The darkness that often accompanies printmaking, both in terms of value and of subject matter, is what draws me most to the media. I love the richness of black ink, and I have found it's simplicity to be a great catalyst for creation. Naturally, I have been deeply influenced by Kathe Kollwitz and other German Expressionists, especially when it comes to printmaking and other drawing techniques.

Sarah Monoprint, 18"x24", mixed linocut and monotype techniques using oil-based ink on paper, April 2014
Before I planned out the direction I wanted this linocut to take, I started with a solid contour.
As you can see, lots of notes, revisions, whiteout, and photocopying went into the planning of this piece.
Thanks for viewing!
