GROUP MAGAZINE PROJECT 2015

IMAGES 1-2
For our second assessment, we are put into groups of four. We have to design a magazine on a specific design genre and for a particular audience. The following are the initial design drafts that came to mind. Researching particular layouts on Pinterest and incorporating a 60s' theme helped design the below examples. The second design is much more fitting to my groups theme. Overlaying shapes and decreasing the opacity creates a softer and creative design. Further development will be added.

through in-class group discussion, we were able to find a particular genre and section that inspired the group. We initially had plans to create a digital version, unfortunately this fell through and become an optional task. With the guidance of tutorial lessons and feedback from tutors and peers, I jotted down points needed to create a well spaced and visually appealing magazine document. Layout sketches involved large images in shapes and two column layouts.
INSPIRATION COLOUR SCHEME
The following are colour schemes we sampled as a group. We felt that the hand a variety of depth and tonal variation and could be used in our final design. Adobe Kuler was a great source for finding specific colour schemes.

Further Research

During tutorial classes we discussed as a group particular designs and layouts we'd prefer to incorporat into our magazine. I researched 60's fashion magazines and I found an assortment of design idea's.
FONT RESEARCH
The following were fonts for header and bosy that I suggest to the group. Unfortunately, it came to the conclusion that some of the header fonts were too modern. The body fonts, whilst clear and visually appealing, there wasn't any coherence between the header and body fonts.

In class we were tasked to create particular layouts we believed fitted our design genre. Shapes were a big influence and large images. I choose to do the portfolio and products for the magazine. The following are example sketched at home.

No one in the group at the time had idea's for the cover page. During my spare time I created some examples. The following is what I came up with. Through constructive feedback, it was noted that the textured background and patterened circles were clashing and it needed to have less objects, especially the cover with the camera's. Cover two was more favourable, but again, needed to fix the background.

Final cover designs. Hannah and I worked on this cover together, overall it has a simple, clean and structured design. Google images was a great source for geometric shapes and colour design.

Illustrator designs for porfolio and products for ERA. The following depict the graphical process I condcuted to finally displaying the solid design pages.
Incorporated a blue texture background using Photoshop and then transferring over to Illustrator. The font implemented in these sections was Myriad Pro size 11 and 14.  I felt the font was too thick and didn't follow the idea or theme surrounding the 60's
Depicting my progress in designing the cover page for Steve Shapiro's portfolio
Following the design sketches I created before hand (refer to images 5-7), I implemented the idea and incorporated it into Illustrator.
Final layout
Below is the final layout taken from in-design to display the layout, font and colour.
