In my Typography class, students were asked to design a type specimen book to showcase the various weights and styles available within a single typeface. We were also required to choose a distinctive theme for our book. I selected Neutraface as my typeface and "restaurant menus" as my theme. Taking advantage of the menu theme, I inserted details about the featured type where the menu prices would normally go.
Within my menu theme, I tried to vary the aesthetic from page to page. I started with a modern, trendy design and continued with an artsy, somewhat handcrafted look.
"Alt sandwiches" is a reference to Neutraface Alt, a version of Neutraface with a few alternate letterforms (the lowercase "a," for example). I used Neutraface Alt exclusively on this page.
I used a simpler design to display all of the weights and styles within the Neutraface Text font family.
On the beer page, I focused on the contrast between Neutraface Bold and Neutraface Book.
With the wine selection, I demonstrated the contrast between Neutraface Semibold and Neutraface Light.
I completed the book by combining an extensive range of sizes, weights, and styles. Designing these last two main pages was by far the most challenging and time-consuming part of the project.
