Studio Ghibli has always been a source of inspiration in my work. A few months ago, I felt the need to start a small side project, and decided to create this fan art. Drawn in ink on paper, scanned and colored in Photoshop CS6.

Shading was done using a gradient, to create a sense of dimension in the piece.
For this kind of drawing, I often do the color and shading separately. The flat colors often give me a feel for how I want the overall piece to look, and often act as a compositional compass for the final drawing.
