This black and white series was made as arts-based research through the seemingly automatic process of lettering and monoprinting. As a Masters student of Creative Process designing my own programme, I studied across the departments of Arts and Process, Art Education, and Art Therapy. This series displays some of those influneces: Using a traditional art medium in an unconventional way-- the printmaking series; questioning "How we learn to read" as a student and Artist in School; and, processing art objects as subconscious relief by using a meditative and contemplative method like lettering and mono printing.
Below are details of the sequential progression of the prints, which are arranged in two rows of gradients that reveal and conceal the main, evocative statement "How We Learn to Read."
The video supplement provides a more realistic experience of this large installation of prints.
