Achromatic - a short animated film

The Project:

A short animated film, using the method of claymation, produced as part of my third year final project.

Theory:

Animation works best when the action and characters are not presented as literal representations of reality. A fantasy world can be more observational of our own world than a more straightforward contemporary setting. Animation, or more specifically claymation has a certain artificiality that on the one hand creates some limitations, while on the other hand it can create a visual metaphor or a twisted perspective of our reality that can be stronger and definitely more appealing than the cold hard truth.
Concept - Story:

In a colorful world where its inhabitants are defined by their color, the main character, a grey creature, who suffers from seeing everything in black and white tries to adjust.
He wonders,
"Living in a colored world and having no idea what color is; what does everyone else see?"
Execution:

After experimenting with various techniques, such as paper drawings and 2D computer animation, I chose to use the method of Claymation. The characters are clay puppets, the body is made of a steel armature, using epoxy patty for solid feet to stand and for joints. The head is made of styrofoam that can be easily sculpted and was then covered with wax based non hardening clay. For the filming I used a DSLR Canon camera and Adobe Premiere Pro CC for video and audio editing.

Thank you! :)
