This thesis is investigating a possibility of transforming a chinese garden to a vertical volume in dense city worldwide.

The first model is situated at the northeast corner of the intersection of 23rd avenue and 8th street in Manhattan because Manhattan has a long history as a laboratory to test the potential of modern life and has an inflexible grid system. The proposal is to unfold the internal activity within architectural volumes, liberate connections of stories and re-expose human to nature. The chosen program grounds on innate office culture in Manhattan and tends to alter the prevailing ‘urban islands’.
