Sketchbook Pages (IB HL Exam) May 2013

This sampling of sketchbook pages were chosen from 2 books created during my time as an International Baccalaureate diploma candidate. These pages were made for IB Higher Level Visual Arts, a class that required both an "Investigational Work Book (IWB)" as well as studio pieces.

My favorite part of the class was working in the IWB, rather than the pieces. I felt I was creating a singular big progress piece by working in the book as a whole, which showed my feelings and thoughts over hundreds of pages rather than a singular canvas. The sketchbook allowed for more exploration and expression, in my opinion. I chose these pages to be a part of my IB examination in May 2013, but the pages were created in the 2011-2013 span, as the class lasted my final two years in high school.
Pages 5 and 6; Jean-Michel Basquat research and process pages of my piece "Insanity" inspired by Basquiat's Untitled (Skull)
Pages 20 and 21; Picasso's blue period research
Pages 16 and 17; Marion Bolognese research with some of my own experimentations in her style
Pages 133 and 134; Jim Fitzpatrick's Che Guevara propoganda poster research
Pages 201 and 202; CLESS research
Pages 27 and 28; Personal thoughts/collage and an anatomical drawing of a heart
Pages 64 and 65; Process pages on my piece "Hipster Injun"
Pages 122 and 123; Hong Chun Zhang research
Pages 89 and 90; Process Pages of my piece "My Friend Jimi"
Pages 110 and 111; Long Island's Best inspiration, documentation of trip and progress pages on my piece "America"
Pages 80 and 81; Paltemps P. Massimo Crypta Balbi research and documentation of trip
