This is a 24" x 36" wall map that shows the spread of the Gospel over the last 2000 years. This project was started when my wife mentioned that this would be something we should have in our home, but didn't seem to exist. Three months of research followed!
As we began collecting all the data on the spead of the church, I compiled it into an After Effects animation, with one frame for each year since 33AD. This animation shows the reach of the gospel growing and receding, but for a single image overlay on a map, we were limited to just showing growth.
Once I exported every hundred years as vector shapes, the next challenge was figuring out how to show the ever-increasing reach of the Gospel in a way that was clear, accurate, and left room for cities and saints.
There were also a lot of color sketches and layout experiments.
We ended up showing each century of growth as expanding rings, almost like topographical lines.
There's also a timeline along the left side of the map that shows events in their historical context.
