Sphere Box *In Progress

The tops were created using two methods, resulting in different surface treatments and different ways reflecting light. The lid on the left was created using a radius cutter on the lathe and then sanded. The lid on the right was created on the mill using a fly cutter with the aluminum stock at an angle to the bit.
In order for the lids to be lighter in weight, the interiors were hollowed out. The left top was hollowed out after the exterior was turned. I used a large bit in the mill to create rounded edges. The lid on the right was hollowed out on the lathe (turned on the lathe before the exterior was fly cut).
While still not finished, this is the general form of the music boxes. Sphere shapes with mutiple materials (walnut and aluminum).
