Interactive Space Divider

Are furnitures just meant to be a product of utility which lie in our homes or Can a piece of furniture also be a part of our childhood memory as much as our favorite game or our toys?
Through this project I have tried to bring in an emotional connect between the user and the product by making the furniture interactive. This room partition for kids can be used in a multiple ways, left to the kids imagination while serving its purpose as a space divider.

I started with capturing images of objects from my surroundings which were essentially formed out of basic geometric shapes.
One of the images was taken as an inspiration and a line drawng was obtained.
The basic line drawing was played around with by using black and grey to show depth and obtain interesting surfaces.
Tesselation of the selected graphic.
Re-creating the surface across different materials.
I carried the idea of the swiveling wodden exploration to design a fun and interactive room seperator.
The final product prototype in MDF
Size: 6ft by 3.5ft
The size can be varied as per the requirement of the space by adding/ removing the rows and columns.
Playful colours can be used on the seperator in the kids room whereas a more matured wodden finish can be given for other spaces. The product colour can also be customised to go with other existing furniture in the room.

This product was featured in Ahmedabad mirror on Dec 10, 2014 as a part of their special coverage on  Convocation 2014 at National Institute of Design.
