Narcissism (2011)
Although most people have a certain degree of self-esteem, for some it turns into the kind of self-infatuation that distorts reality. My drawing, in a tribute to “Narcissus” by Caravaggio, portrays a girl viewing her more attractive reflection in the water, which she believes accurately represents her true self.
Willful Ignorance (2011)
This work is intended to reveal the flip side of narcissism, whereby one not only embellishes her positive traits, but rationalizes away her flaws by pretending they do not exist. The girl’s narcissistic reflection in the water turns out to be her alter ego; her different side, drowning and short of breath, looks back at her surface counterpart who is too deluded to realize her real-self.
