Thumbelina: Delusions of Victimhood (2011)
To a victim of mentality, even those things which are actually harmless can be unconsciously mistaken for threats because of one’s paranoid mental state or self-preservation instincts. In my portfolio, I illustrate this situation by alluding to the fairy tale “Thumbelina,” in which the main character is continually harassed by bigger creatures due to her small stature.
Snow White: Maternal Love and Protection (2011)
There seems to be a distinct quality about “maternalism” that delves deeply into the realm of the unconscious. This artwork represents Snow White as a mother-like figure to the dwarves who, in her presence, seem to act more like little children than her guardians.
Ugly Duckling: The Sociophobia (2014)
In the original fairytale, the duckling become a beautiful swan and recover his self-esteem. However, the ending could be different if it was "the real world". In my reinterpretation of the tale, because of the trauma he got from being bullied, the duckling becomes a sociophobic even though he realizes that he is a swan.
