Dyselxia is Rael

Dyselxia is Rael is a 3-phase campaign which seeks to raise awareness for the most common learning disability in the world, to educate the Malaysian public about dyslexia and to offer a basic solution to bridge the gap towards professional help. Finally to create a set of basic designer guidelines to create accessibility for all for children's books.

I. AWARENESS CAMPAIGN

The Idea
To show the public how real this disability is by allowing them to experience what it is like as a dyslexic person.

The Strategy
To take over the entire newspaper and rewrite the titles and summary of each article to simulate how a dyslexic person might see letters.
This will lead to an activation to allow people to speak up about how it affects them.

The Activation
Simply take a picture of yourself holding a sign with a phrase scrambled from the letters D Y S L E X I A, hashtag it #DYSLEXIAISREAL.
For example, “I have dyslexia” can be scrambled into “I have sex daily”

II. THE SOLUTION
Basic Toolkit for Parents and Educators

The Toolkit
To provide a basic toolkit for parents and educators to help identify if their children showcase the symptoms of dyslexia and to provide them with basic ways to help them learn better.

How To Tell
If Your Child Has Dyslexia?

How To Tell
If Your Child Has Dyslexia?

The App
The Dyselxia is Rael app is an OCR [Optical Character Recognition] app that allows text-to-speech conversion, specifically designed with dyslexia in mind. The app takes an image of a document or access one on file, and converts that to editable text, which it will then convert into a accent-neutral voice.
III. DESIGNER GUIDELINES

Create Accessibility for All
There is a whole library of books for "normal" children, but there is the smaller, more expensive pile of special books for children with learning disability. This is a proposal to create a set of guidelines which children books designers can use to create books opened to all.

The things that will help a dyslexic child learn will also help a normal kid learn too, so why no use the same guidelines and eliminate exclusivity.

Future Expansion
To provide more kits dedicated to more specific target, for example one specific to classroom activities.

Result
If the objective of spreading the awareness of dyslexia is met, it will hopefully spur the education sector, both private and government into recognising the needs of these children and start providing the relevant resources.
Some of these children are very bright, do not let talent go to waste. #dyslexiaisreal
