American history tells a story of frontiers; land which was discovered, worked, and cultivated. Men and women cut down trees, lit fires, built houses, and started families. The axe helped shape their lives and create the homes in which they lived. It had a physical power that was felt and seen in action, an extension of flesh and bone, in wood and steel.
To this day, the axe remains a powerful tool, an expression of our physicality, and a celebration of our pioneering spirit. Through this Kawae project series, I strive to honor and embody this legacy through my handcrafted works.
